Trying to get a Tummy Tuesday

I saw a book title that I totally love: All Cats Have Asberger's Syndrome. Someday I am going to get that book because it suddenly helped me understand something about not only LIttle T but also about our gang of kitties--

they don't look when you call them
they totally ignore you when you talk (most of the time)
they don't want you to pick them up unless they come to you first
they don't want to do what you want them to do unless they're willing

Like ... taking a picture for Tummy Tuesday

Mouse was on our bed, rolling on his back and enjoying myself and so I brought out my camera. And what do you think happened? Click on the picture for the whole story!

Feline Friday: Mommy, make him move!

First Amber discovered the cozy benefits of lounging in front of my computer screen. Then Mouse saw what a good deal she had and began arriving before she did to plop himself in the coveted spot. Amber wasn't interested in fighting with Mouse and so he got used this being "his" spot.

Newcomer Kosmo also likes to plop in front of the computer. Usually it's not an issue as they jump up at different times...except for this one particular day. For quite a few long seconds, neither one was going to give way to the other but then finally Kosmo gave it up and came back later.

Amber chills in the heat

Why are very hot days just called "dog days"? Amber knows how to get through the heat--don't move! She doesn't quite have room to show all of her tummy in its splendiferous glory but feels we should be happy we get this much. For the last several weeks she's been in hiding much of the time, sulking over the new kitty in the family, Indigo.

I like to make sure the shower is in proper order after Mommy or Daddy has used it!

No moldy mildewy stuff here!

Feline Friday: Shy Indigo

It's been a couple of weeks since I introduced Indigo and in that time, she's remained reclusive. Heidi, our artist, has the largest and most cluttered room in the house. Indy prefers the artist's lifestyle and spends 99% of her time there. The other day, I thought I would get some updated pictures to share and found Indy on the edge of Heidi's bed.

Oh no you don't, said Indigo, I'm no model! No headshots of me!

She retreated to just outside Heidi's closet, throwing the camera all sorts of evil kitty looks. Heidi went to her and easily picked her up and coaxed her into posing for me.

Heidi has always wanted a cat that would love her and want to spend time with her...and Indy seems to be exactly the kitty for her!

Cats on Tuesday, or boys just like to have fun

About a year ago, I noticed Mouse was infatuated with my stuffed puppy! I'd never seen a cat get so into kneading something!

This was when we still thought Mouse was a female and it was the puppy who helped us figure out Mouse's secret!

Then Kosmo joined the household and the boys tend to hang out together the most. Kosmo is a very observant cat as TB found out one day. He happened to see my camera nearby.

Aw look, Kosmo is kneading too!

Ah, yes, sez Mouse, he learned from the best!

Er ... what's that he's doing now?

Mouse sez, uh, I don't think I showed him that.

Kosmo sez, call of the wild, baby, what can I say?

But we're on camera!

Mouse sez, well, I'm outta here, I'm not that kind of guy! I don't do kitty porn!

Tummy Tuesday

My guys and gals don't like to show off their tummies too often. I got lucky here. I was playing with Kosmo and he rolled back to take a break. Luckily, I whipped out my handy dandy camera, distracted him and snap!

Indigo

We have a new feline addition to our household! Her name is Indigo and she is a beautiful little cat. Right now she is in hiding and I wasn't going to subject her to my camera (yet) but here is her picture from the poster I saw at our grocery store.

I was very touched by the message: "Lovable cat needs good home. We took her in as a result of a death in the family and are no longer able to care for her. Indigo is up to date on her shots and comes with food, toys, and litter pans. She is a sweet cat that loves attention and would make a great addition to your life."

I looked at her picture and felt I had to contact the people caring for her. Mouse was put up for adoption by a man who'd just lost his wife and felt he couldn't take care of her cat. I thought that Mouse and Indigo would have something in common...not to mention the fact that they look a little alike.

I talked to TB about it and he was more than agreeable so I contacted the owners and we went over to visit this afternoon. I fell in love with Indy right away. The young women, cousins, told us that Indy belonged to a distant relation who'd died before Christmas. The man had been a veteran of one of the wars and had been injured. He had a mechanical larynx but didn't speak much. The women thought that he might not have called Indy much by name because she didn't respond to the sound of it.

Or ... it just occurred to me that the sound of the name Indigo would be very different coming from a mechanical larynx, wouldn't it?

Indigo grieved for her owner for a few months but seemed to be adjusting okay. But now the women are moving and they can't take the little cat.

I am so glad I saw that ad in the store. Indy is a beautiful little kitty and I hope that she adjusts well here. Mouse and Kosmo have "met" her and Mouse was more curious than anything else. Kosmo was mad. He hissed and spat at her, which is unfortunate. I'm not sure how Amber feels about her new sister yet.

So now we have 4 kitties.

Amber Eyes

For Cats on Tuesday:

I just love my new camera. It takes great close up shots. I do most of my practicing on Amber, not necessarily the most photogrenic or patient but surely the slowest kitty in the house.

Amber.jpg

Her favorite perch is right in front of my computer and that is where I keep my camera. I was sitting this far from Amber when I took the next picture. I just used the zoom lens.

ambereyes.jpg

In other news: I saw my friendly new DVR (Division of Vocational Rehabilitation) counselor this morning and talked about how to get me back into the work force. I would like to and feel I can handle a part time teacher's aide job and the counselor agreed this would be a good job for me. I had a psych eval last year before Tomas came to live with us and the doctor felt that fibromyalgia and my physical injuries would be the biggest impediment to work and that emotionally I could handle it. Yay! Well, with the ADA it wouldn't be hard to get accommodations--I just need to be able to stand up or sit down as needed and I have enough stamina to go part time.

Billy went back to RPI after his week long spring break. I missed him almost immediately. Well, May is coming...

Heidi & Kristin are doing great. TB and another employee where he works had words. The other guy is pissed off about something and it's just one of those man-things. It seems to have been straightened out, thank goodness. TB doesn't need any more aggravation than he's already got.

And in the world of agita, Linda was supposed to start work through a temp agency today. It sounds like a scene right out of The Grapes of Wrath when the foreman comes to hire from a bunch of guys standing around desperate for jobs. She shows up and there are half a dozen other people there or so. The boss comes out, says I need 5, picks out the five and the others are left out to dry. The temp agency had a representative there too and I wondered why that rep didn't speak up? Say something like, "Hey you can't have our agency send 8 people out and then you only pick 5."

Tomas had a bacterial infection but is doing much better! His class is having a St. Patrick's day party on Friday and I will be there with my leprechaun hat on!

153RD Carnival of the Cats

Oh the weather outside is getting frightful, and it makes the Internet so NOT delightful because now that it's started to snow, everything's slow, everything's slow, everything's slow ... especially Blogger! Anyway, sez Mousie, welcome to the 153rd edition of the Carnival of the Cats. Pull up your chairs and be prepared to be entertained!

Mouse says.JPG

Saturn 5 gives us a great picture of what our kitties might be thinking of us when we're not looking! Instructive for cat people as well as the non-cat people. Smile

It looks like KeesKennis had the same issue we did with out Mouse. We thought Mouse was a she and found out to our great chagrin that he was not! Check out the formerly known as Lelu's revealing slide show!

Nancy at Unpaid Writer provides us with a moving account of what it's like to care for a loved kitty with diabetes.

Pookie blends in really well on this colorful love seat for felines!

One of today's entries was a picture in an email. We weren't sure what to do with it and so we uploaded it to photobucket to share with the rest of the revellers. Here is Joe Goodman's ragdoll:

Aw! Don't we all wish we had kittens scampering around the house after viewing A Kitten's Guide to Looking Cute while Unconscious on Chris Dolley's page!

ACM of Just Between Strangers shares some "old times" with kitten pictures of Pixel.

Cute little kittens Charlie and Eden are back at If at first you don't succeed... to recover from spay/neuter surgery. Get well quick!

Speaking of adorable kittens, our very own special guest star this week is the very lovable and personable Luka of the Netherlands!

Jamsodonnell of The Poor Mouth also has a guest this week: Csili, Evilest Cat in Transylvania

Rahel of Elms in the Yard shares a picture of a kitty stopping a moment to watch what's going on.

Better than having a blanket or throw is to be surrounded by big furry felines while you are watching your favorite TV show. Also from Blog d'Elisson is a lovely headshot of Queen Mutata followed by a most definitely not royal shot of her tummy.

Blueberry at Texas Oasis shares pictures of her black beauties Duncan and Jax. Also check out the cartoon at the bottom of the blog.

Nicky is bird watching at Mélange. I wonder if Nicky ever chitters at the birds the way Mouse and Amber do? It's like they're trying to convince the birdies to come closer! Also, here are two more views of feline tummies!

Amber sez, oh, all right, now you're allowed to post some of me. I might as well get into the act too!

Megan of Bad Kitty Cats shares some rare and or antique photos of the kitties. This looks like a fun blog we must come back and visit says Mouse! And who is that mysterious mysterious headless kittycat?

Mmmmmm boy does Gracie of MANX MNEWS love this banana! We loved the pictures! :)

Cats are ingenious at getting what they need when we are not around to serve them. Check out What Huckleberry of Stereophilia. Then Bagheera shows us the best way to look at humans.

TiGrr of Composite Drawlings is king of the armchairs, just like me says Kosmo.

For lots of laughs, check out Granddaddy Long Legs's post featuring funny pictures and videos of kitties doing hilarious things.

Mr. Gato of Enrevanche is flanked by his royal guard as he surveys his catdom. Best wishes to Barry Campbell's mom, hope she is doing much better!

Edison, stop chewing the power cord!We don't want you lighting up like a tree!

Leslie's Omnibus shares a nice close up of the divine Miss Marilyn. Miss Marilyn stayed home from the Lincoln State Cat Fair but Leslie attended. Here are some pictures of the judging. There was more than just judging at the cat show. Very interesting!

There is another cat in the picture and she is now making her move Ferdy of The Conservative Cat notes with some jealousy?

Gato-Azul shares the sweet story of Feliz. Half of a paragraph is in French, the other in English. We enjoyed this post!

Check out the cool pillow stuffed with a kitty's favorite drug of choice! Then, no Britney Spears cut for this gorgeous feline at Sisu's!

My, Bean Sidhe (Bannikins) of House of Chaos certainly is getting big but surely that is because he is partly Maine Coon, like our Amber.

"Here is what I think of getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist's!" Bow says to Val. Boy is Bow mad!

At Catymology's Darcy posts about not "The Year of the Cat" but about the year of the pig and other pop trash.

Check out all the cat art at Walking Prescott.

Cato of Catnip Anonymous has a confession to make.

What a nice picture of Tigger at Pet's Garden.

There are several adorable pictures of the kitties at Cats, Goats, Quotes, & Musings: Miss Emily, Georgia, Timothy, Bandit, and my favorite, Gracie AKA "Got Milk?"

JT of OldController shares pictures of felines relaxing in various ways just because I can!"

Check out the copycat snoozers at Furry Paws, they are so cute!

Here is a lovely picture of Lizzie, one of cuties at It's All Good.

And here is a glamour shot of Lyra, lovely feline from Music and Cats.

That is a really cool picture of Maddie watching birds and human critters through the window. There is also a nice pictures of Ivy but we were really taken with the one of Maddie. Read all about it at StrangeRanger!

Pushkin's not very impressed with action figure Jesus over at Begin Each Day As If It Were On Purpose. Maybe if he was a Wolverine figure...Here he says, "who me? Judgemental?"

And yup, this is not exactly Friday Cat Blogging but it does have two pictures of kitties and it is funny!

Reverse Barometer has a new blog and here it is. One of the kitties can forecast the weather and said there would be no ice storm. The kitty must not live in NJ because I hear little ice pellets hitting my window as I type. comments/sighing.gif And the under-the-feet issue is totally familiar to us too!

From Mind of Mog comes Izzy Movie Monday, Tongue ‘n Toes Thursday #9,Tummy Tuesday #31, Scratch Me, Loafing around, and These be bad kittycats.

Morris of EGO enjoys the view from the window.

Oh, what a look of love or adoration on Grendel's face! Xenogere is so lucky, the only time our kitties look at us like that is when we have food!

Ah, what could be better on a February day than a nice cozy laundry basket? And what could be more fun than playing hide & seek in a bag?

A very moving tribute to Xaxu from TacJammer.

Well, that's it for today, folks. Be sure to check Carnival of the Cats to see where the next party will take place. So long for now!

Yeah, nitey night, stay dry and out of the snow and ice. Mouse? Mouse?

Mouse: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Feliine Friday On Saturday: Special Guest

My friend in the Netherlands sent new pictures of family and her little kitten, Luka, a while back. Isn't he adorable?

What dreamy eyes!

I realize that Luka is the type of kitty TB would like to have some day. He wants an orange tabby that he can name Hobbes ... the stuffed tiger pal of little Calvin from that wonderful and much missed comic strip, Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson.

Feline Friday: Kosmo, the feline king

Doesn't Kosmo have a look of royalty about him?

He is a very sweet natured, patient guy--around us two legged critters anyway. I got a new camera for Christmas and took what seemed like hundreds of pictures of him. I thought he'd get sick of the flashes going off but I guess the paparazzi wouldn't faze him one little bit!

I uploaded the nicest of the the pictures and cropped some of them to see how they'd come out. Click on the pic if you want to see more!

If Cats Wrote Christmas Cards

Meowy Christmas from your loving cat.

Aren't I cute?

Now leave me the hell alone.

We, your cats, at Christmas say,

Thanks for caring for us each day.

We love this season, all green and red,

And by the way, the hamster's dead.

As watchman-cat, I've done my job,

The house is safe once more.

That shiny stuff that stormed the tree

Is dead now on the floor.

Wrapping paper! Ribbon! Bows!

Tree! Tree! Tree! Tree!

Shiny! Shiny! Christmas balls!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeee!

{CRASH!!}

Hee hee! I wish I could take credit for these but they're actually from a joke newsletter written by Moni.04.gif

Feline Friday on Saturday: Kosmo's New Bed

Yikes! I just realized there was a bad link in last week's carnival! Sorry, Mags, I think it's fixed now!

Kosmo says, my new bed is very comfortable but it makes me look like a cream puff!

140th Carnival of the Cats

kozmo_9-17-06_1.JPG

Well, hello there, I'm Kosmo, the new kid on the block here so Mouse & Amber say I have to take a turn at this carnival of the cats event. If I do this right, we can get to have the carnival here again! Over this last week, the humans celebrated "Thanksgiving". You know what, my human pets didn't even take any pictures of us this week although we were lying around in our splendiferous glory. One thing I am very greatful for is the fact that I am a much-loved and honored cat and not a human.

They get so busy this time of the year and then they just totally collapse on the floor like the Sims on that silly computer they're so entranced by. Why don't they just curl up and nap like we do? Silly people. With our pets, it was not only picking up people from college, taking younger family members to and from places they needed to go, spending an entire day Wednesday at a children's hospital with the littlest one, there was also much ado in the kitchen in the wee hours.

That was the best part. The delicious smells. And oh, the turkey! Still...no pictures of us or even of them indulging. Tsk tsk. Well, maybe it's better there weren't any pictures of us lying around in stuffed bliss--we all ended up more stuffed than the turkey! Now, you would think the humans would have enough sense sleep and let the tryptophan work its magic but, oh no, they were off and running again--not participating in "Black Friday" but in a whole bunch of other shenanigans.

The Cassie-pet is going to make a post about the human goings-on so I'll stop rambling and get to the important part: the 140th Carnival of the Cats!

pets.jpg

Up First

So sorry to hear that both Duncan and Alex of Texas Oasis are having such terrible health issues! Here's cyber best wishes that both kitties are doing much better!

On the bright and up side, The Taylor CatSSSSSdedicate the blog to the doctor and staff at the hospital that saved little KC! Earlier, KC was one very sick little kitten! Here is a visit to KC who didn't look very well. All our kitties should have vets as dedicated and caring as Dr. Smith!

Things are also getting back to normal at Yourish. It's good to see the kitties feeling better!

There is a very touching tribute to a very special kitty, Cotton, at Wind in the Wire.

Thanksgiving & Black Friday

Did anyone else have felines doing the turkey dance as happened at No Deep Thoughts?

Over at Sisu's, Tiny inspects the "Thanksgiving lite" table. There are sweet pictures of Tiny and Tuck givin each other little lovin. Then Tiny takes a little morning after tryptophan tripping. Here are two different faces of Tiny, note the state of alertness in this lovely kitty and then the state of relaxation.

Then, of course, there's the usual over indulgence in turkisaurus...hope this kitty at Ambivablog didn't get a tummy ache!

Maybe that kitty needs to pick up some meal time etiquette from Xena the Prowler and Kai the Beggar at Chris Dolley's place.

OR...Hakuna and Matata show off their most excellent table manners over at Blog d'Elisson. Our guys could use some lessons from them, right, Amber?

MA_5_18_05_27.jpg
Amber says: Manners, schmanners, just give me the turkey NOW.

Another satisfied Thanksgiving feline face at Stereophilia! At the same home, Huckleberry expresses some dismay at the size of the turkey!

Thanksgiving pay-offs for Piper at TBIFOC!

Here are some morning after turkey stalkers at Composite Drawings

Ah, the turkey was also delicious at The Scratching Post. Now the tryptophan kicks in. Is there any tryptophan in tuna?

Tryptophan kicks in for Loki at Lemons & Lollipops. Uh-oh! It looks like he's had a little too much turkey and doesn't quite fit in the box he's chosen to nap in!

Not all kitties wanted to indulge in turkey: there was a crab feast at Beezer's!

Other Felines in the News

The "quadrupeds" at Enrevanche are being treated to some special pampering while the bipeds are on vacation!

Tater and Trinket of Catymology got to enjoy a little vacation in feline paradise. Is this heaven? No, it's Ohio.

Now, here is another bit of kitty paradise: Purrniture. What a great name for kitty condos!

"Allan's kitty says: Dude. There's no way I'm going shopping on Black Friday. Me neither!

At The Peach Pit, it looks like this kitty took in some Friday shopping and ended up in a Kohl's bag!

Ostara's Sam says, I do the channel surfing around here! That is most definitely a guy thing especially when the commercials come on!

Along similar lines, Bebe at The Poor Mouth says wait, wait, wait! I'm not done with this page yet!

Mags is besotted with her kitty and no wonder: what a hard worker!

Laughing Muse says, "I felt poorly this weekend, so stayed home...and photographed my cats. I think they may try to grow opposable thumbs just to disassemble the camera."

Feline Philosophy features photos of stray kitties, accompanied by words of wisdom!

At Da Nator's a family of feral cats are treated to a fine feast. It's good to hear that Ma Nator is trying to make sure the kitties are fed.

computerliterate1.jpg

Amber was sitting by my side as we read through the Carnival submissions and she definitely wants a cat cozy for Christmas this year. They are free with a donation to a most excellent cause: books for Israel!

Wylie is showing off his lovely warm winter coat. The coat goes along very well with Babified's cool seasonal layout!

Everything I ever needed to learn in life I learned from a cat's butt! Amazed and confused? So was I when I saw the title of the post but actually what Kenton Winton says makes a lot of sense so stop scratching!

Calais at Crazy Meezer is all tongue twisted!

Adorable neighboring kitties are featured at Elms in the Yard!

Check out Abby at Manx News. She does look like the look of movie star about her! And that does pose an interesting question: what famous person resembles our kitties?

And check out Tigger showing off his "gravity defying talents" at Pets Garden Blog!

Tigger at Val's Bienis a gorgeous kitty! Here he perches with ease and grace!

Is this a great tummy shot over at Watermark's? I wish I could catch one of our kitties in that pose! Speaking of great shots, also check out the Warhol kitties!

Ivy seems to be settling in quite nicely at Strange Ranger's. And here Maddie relaxes in her favorite spot.

Check out It's All Good. Doesn't Nicky have some gorgeous eyes? What a regal looking kitty all right!

Don't you just love the way cats will sometimes demand attention? This is a familiar scene for us, too, Maggie!

Another familiar scene: just got back from vacation and how do the kitties react to our return? I had to smile about the two very different reactions of Orloff and Pushkin at Begin Each Day...'s.

House of Chaos has an interesting post about purring and a sweet, touching photo of Zorro giving comfort to Crittur.

The Cassie-pet hopes she got all the links right, she said to ask you to leave a message if she made a mess in her computer box and needs to clean it up. Now I'm going to take a nap...but before I do, let me just say that next week's carnival will be hosted at Catymology. See you there!

DSC00018.JPG
So long foks, have a great week!

The Carnival Is Coming, The Carnival Is Coming!

mouseamber_4_19_05_8.jpg

Hey, I think I see something! Is it them?

MA_5_18_05_11.jpg

Yup, it's them, it's the carnival...they're coming!

mouseamber_4_19_05_10.jpg
But why is it taking so long to get them here?

katz_5_31_05_21.jpg
Our human pets have been running around like turkeys all week and weekend long. But the female pet is getting her act together and the carnival is halfway put together. Tune in tomorrow!

katz_5_31_05_23.jpg
Meanwhile, have a nice nap!

Someone sent me a variation of the floppy girl tumbling and falling amongst the bubbles--or whatever they are. This is President Bush. Whenever I feel frustrated about how things are going or not going here and around the world, I play this game. Amber enjoys it too, even though she hasn't been able to "catch" the tumbling Bush.

Another Kitty?

When we adopted Kosmo a couple of weeks ago, there were other kitties looking for homes. In particular there was a sad Russian Blue named "Mikey" who'd been given up (in the words of the pet sanctuary) "for no good reason". Kristin and Heidi favored adopting Mikey but TB had fallen in love with Kosmo. We all felt bad about leaving all the other kitties behind. Today someone called from the sanctuary to see how Kos is doing and TB happened to ask about Mikey. The lady told him that poor Mikey is in the hospital because he's stopped eating or drinking anything! She thinks it's depression and that a good foster home would help. Well, of course we wouldn't want anything bad to happen to the poor thing and so we want to take him in--if the hospital says he can come. So we may have a *fourth* kitty. We'll see.

Feline Friday: *My* Perch!

Mouse says: Don't even think about it, Kosmo!

Friday Five

At what time of day are you most capable of producing your best work?

In the morning, up to around lunch time

When you have lots of things to get done, are you more likely to get all of one thing done before moving on, or to do a little of one thing, a little of another, and a little of still another?

I do a little bit of everything and get nothing done! 04.gif

Do television and music help you or hinder you when you’ve got work to do?

Music helps, TV hinders

When you realize you’re working inefficiently, are you more likely to grit your teeth and power through it anyway, or to put it all down and come back to it when the vibe is better?

I tend to get real frustrated and put it all down until next time when usually the same thing happens again!rofl.gif

What are your ideal working conditions?

I'm alone in the house, got a cup of coffee and music going in the background

Our Kosmo

Now that he's sort of got the lay of the land and figured out who is who in this house, Kosmo's come out of hiding. He is a very friendly, affectionate guy who--even though this post is about him--would much prefer me to scritch scratch between his ears than type on the keyboard! More later...and more pictures

here.

Hey, so is it Kosmo or Kozmo? He's not telling!

A New Addition

We have a new member of the family!

Here Mouse meets his new older brother, Kosmo. Mouse isn't quite sure what to make of all this--aren't siblings supposed to be younger?

Amber made it clear she doesn't appreciate having another brother. But...maybe Mouse will stop picking on her!

TB wrote more about Kosmo and how we got him in his entry My Conversion Is Complete. TB is no longer a dog person!

It's been a long time since I had a chance to do a meme and Unconscious Mutterings is one of my favorites!

Feline Friday: Boy or Girl?

cuddling.jpg

After her dad died in 2001, Heidi wanted a kitty of her own so we went to the animal shelter on Long Island to adopt an adult kitty. Heidi and Mouse hit it off right away and it seemed meant to be because Mouse had just been dropped off by a widower too grief stricken to care for his late spouse's kitty anymore. The paperwork said she was a neutered female, about 1-2 years old. We've always thought of Mouse as a "she" and a "her".

The other day, TB and I saw Mouse grooming herself and what caught our attention was a very unfeminine looking part of the anatomy. We were both totally stunned. The girls were hysterical with laughter. "This is so messed up," Heidi says.

Our Mouse is ... a boy?

We need verification from a vet...wait a minute! Shouldn't a vet have said something to us about this already, like: hmmm, this is not a girl kitty, this is a boy kitty. Or do they just assume (like cats do) that all humans are stupid?

Feline Friday: Watch the birdie!

We had a lovely day yesterday and had all the doors and windows open. TB happened to catch Mouse at the door, watching a spring robin.

the-kats-3-30-06_26.JPG

She couldn't get outside to get it, so she was singing to it to try and persuade it to come closer. How she planned to get the bird through the door if that happened is a total mystery to me.

the-kats-3-30-06_32.JPG

Amber came over to see who Mouse was singing to and the bird flew away. Oh, well, sez Mouse, I didn't want the birdie anyway. I like fish much better!

105th Carnival of the Cats

1-7-2006 catz_19.JPG

We're so happy to be hosting the 105th Carnival of the Cats. This is the second time we've had the party here so we feel a little better about it all.

Come on in!
pets.jpg

First up is a posted video clip that will surely make everyone go “awwwww!”
Catheroo catheroominations has an adorable clip you won’t want to miss, really the Cutest. Thing. Evah.

And speaking of kittens, Karen at The Thomas Institute shows us Daisy and Rosy snuggling. But…there’s been a change! How will it affect this mother-daughter relationship as Karen wonders Whose Bright Idea It Was To Adopt The Cats? I think Daisy & Rosy will be okay as soon as the scent of surgery wears off! :)

Rahel at Elms in the Yard snapped some wonderful pictures of kitties who weren't too shy for her camera. Rahel also took snaps of a kitty resting in a tree. We enjoyed looking at the pictures of the birdies too!

ACM at Just Between Strangers featured another adorable kitten, Pixel, this week. We know about trying to give equal face time to our kitties! :) Amber and Mouse vie for the camera sometimes.

LHK at Beezer Song finds that kitties really love keeping desk chairs warm!

Miss Clover at Melange has gone into hiding! She would like to be found so she can participate in today's carnival. Oh, where, oh where can Miss Clover be? Peek-a-boo! SRP also posts pictures of two really cool cats! I have to admit I haven't seen either our girls Amber or Mouse sit the way Nicky and Rhett are sitting!

Ringo at Elisson says, "Call me a lawyer, I've been framed!

Creatures of the Earth's Cato has a political opinion:"Who cares what they think? I don't care if the President deceived everyone about Iraq. I don't even know where Iraq is. I am much more interested in knowing whether Galloway will grow his own tail or use a prosthesis."

Ferdy at Conservative Cat is doing the thoughtful thing for his human pets--trying to keep together a favorite old chair!

Check out the phantom paw at maggies meanderings and shameless plugs

Depending on your generation, Abby is having fun doing the Hootchie Kootchie/Curly Shuffle/break dancing at Manx Mnews!

At Blueberry's Texas Oasis, you have to pay a toll to get up the stairs. Preferred method of payment: Catnip!

Mister Gato and Chow Bella share a sunbeam at Barry Campbell's Enrevanche. What a sweet picture! Now, why can't we two legged creatures of different cultures get along? ;)

It's that time of the year again! Velvet, one of Two Black Cats takes advantage of some nice weather in March and relaxes in the sunshine!

Chocolate Chip is deep in concentration at The Peach Pit!

Winston of A Blog, Purr-Say demonstrates three steps to PURR-sonal hygiene

Aloysius Katz at catymology has gone on strike! Why is there still snow on the ground when it's supposed to be spring?

Lab Kat posted a picture of Pica, the underfed. Poor Pica "looks" underfed! :)

Rocket is chief mouser and protector at keewee'scorner!

Ready? Set? No action from Bagheera at Stereophilia: Wes Phillips Blog. And check out the WMD on Huckleberry! What claws!

Most of the time, we don't enjoy infomericals or commercials of any kind. But, Kukka-Maria of Memoirs of a Feline Empress in Exile markets a product in such a way no feline can resist! Check out Whisker Well and "Unleash the Lion Within!"

Everyone needs a dedicated and efficient security kitty like Aye-Aye of Composite Drawlings!

Cats love to hide! Rhett of No Deep Thoughts seems to have a perfect hiding place but still wonders, "How did you find me?" Peek-a-boo!

tgr at This Girl Remembers came home from work to find a new friend waiting for her. Who can resist that face?

Omnibus Driver at Leslie's Omnibus shares the thoughts of sleeping kitties Miss Marilyn and Tiger Boots!

This picture is priceless! Check out the expression on Butterscotch's face at at Mensa Barbie Welcomes You !

Even two can be a crowd as Willie learns to his chagrin and Jack's triumph at Sleeping Mommy

There are beautiful pictures of a black kitty and an Ode To Seal at Cascade Exposures.

At Middle-Fork, ouch! Maple Will Not Be Having Any Kittens

Over at Watermark, Spike and Boo have joined a very friendly Kitty Community, Catster! Amber and Mouse joined there last year and there are no catty kitties there, they're all nice! Cute pictures, too! SB also shared a black and white picture of Boo.

Kimberly at Anchored by Grace wrote "What a neat idea! I'd like to share a photo of Riley, the Cutest Cat in the World? (I know others may dispute that title, but Riley and I know the truth :P ) and Princess Lotus Blossom, who looks very sweet but the heart of a brat beats deep within her chest." Check out Riley & Blossom

Here is another picture to make you go "awwwww". Callie and Tiger are sibs and they do look it! Callie also gives Mr. Toast of Wind In The Wire the "hairy eyeball" ... a look I've only seen from feline friends!

Sisu's entries this week Tuck in It doesn't require religious faith to believe in something worth fighting for and The Babe in Might this explain the weird reasoning of many leftists?

Here are two more sun worshippers. "Emily and Paris react differently to the sun, but neither one of them will leave a sunny room when one is available," says Cath Coll. Ah, who can blame them?

CFO Mom at My Cats Are French realizes that kitties are a lot like human tykes when it comes to toys--they like the wrappings and the empty boxes better than the toys! "Money can't buy happiness." So true!

It's amazing how cats can squeeze themselves into tight places! Snowball of Josh's Weblog may be growing bigger but she can still fit into low lying places! Snowball is also a very pretty kitty.

Ah, more spring is springing pictures! At Val's Bien, the temperatures may have started off in the 20s ... brrrrrrrr!.... But it warmed up enough for Eli and Tigger to enjoy some fun in the sun.

Sebastian and Yaffa are cuddling at Furry Paws. I love pictures of cats cuddling. Amber and Mouse do not cuddle but I guess that is because we adopted them from different owners when they were adults.

Smudge at Farmgirl Fare looks quite comfortable and content posing on the old well house roof.

Rosa of Rosa's Yummy Yums features "uncontrollable jumping pea" Fridolin, aka "Inspektor".

At StrangeRanger, Maddie goes on a walkabout in the yard with her human pets.

Clare Eats at eatstuff says Kiri was the best company when she wasn't feeling so well!

Josh Cohen at Multiple Mentality wrote about Piper, the cat who survived an 80 foot fall!

KT Cat of The Scratching Post shows she is not so out of shape she can't beat any competition to an open can of tuna!

Jack Cluth of The People's Republic of Seabrook lets us know who the real talent behind the keyboard is!

We have several acts from Mind of Mog:

Iggy Fat

Another Wasted Day "Taking pictures of the cats in and out"

He Izzy Clean

Cat Watching

Kitty Time Again

Poor Millie at cb.blog wants compensation -- attention and affection. Hope Millie is feeling all better soon!

Morris of Ego is reflected in the window in athoughtful pose.

What a priceless expression on the kitty at Music and Cats! This is the look I get from our kitties when we want to take their pictures: Feline Friday: Whaddaya want?

And finally, what would the carnival be without an appearance from TIBOC's Piper and Nardo?

Tomas-visit-2-17-06_110.JPG

That's this week's round up--we're pretty sure we got everyone but let us know if we inadvertently left you off. Next week's Carnival of the Cats will be hosted by Pet's Garden Blog. Have a great week everyone!

The 103 Carnival of the Cats will be hosted at Justin's Random Thoughts.

Four For Friday

Q1 - Greeting Cards: When was the last time you mailed a card to someone, and what was the occasion?

I sent a notecard with a kitty on it to my mom, just for the heck of it. Also sent a get well card to Oma. Should have sent out a birthday card to my father-in-law by now. :P

Q2 - Courts: Now that two new judges have been nominated, confirmed, and sworn in to serve on the United States Supreme Court, do you believe the Court will overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision at some point over the next five to ten years?

I hope so but I doubt it because then it would be like saying we'd (the collective) been killing babies for over 30 years and who wants to face that?

Q3 - E-mail: How many different e-mail accounts do you have, and how often do you tend to use each one?

I must have a gajillion and most I don't use at all. I get tired of the service, abandon it and move on--that's happened with my email on care2, msn, yahoo, ivillage, aol and comcast. I still use my twhgrafx and my gmail.

Q4 - March Madness: Because of all the college basketball tournaments taking place this month, some people say the month of March should be renamed "Basketball." Are you following this month's college basketball action, and if so, which men's and women's teams are you rooting for?

I hate March madness! Lost and Survivor aren't airing any new episodes for 2-3 weeks!

Cat Friday: My Desk Is Your Desk

amber21.jpg

Amber is my constant companion when I'm at the desk...I can't exactly call it my desk because it's clear she figures she's sharing with me and that everything on the desk is hers to play with...like the pencil I'm trying to write with, or my mouse or ...

amber20.jpg

This pink fluffy thing, which is actually attached to a pen!

amber17.jpg

amber11.jpg

amber19.jpg
Gotcha, Pink Mouse!

As for me, the human pet, I didn't get much done that day. Oh well.

Five on Friday

The subject matter is a bit grim and I was taken aback at first but what the hey.

1. Have you written your will?

Yes

2. Would you prefer to be burried or cremated? Why?

For one thing, it's more economical. For another, I don't want to be in the ground forgotten. People generally don't like to go to cemetaries and I'm one of them. So I'd rather be scatttered to the wind, fertilize some flowers, get shot into space, or sprinkled on the ocean. I'm not going to be in that grave anyway.

3. What do you imagine your funeral to be like?

I don't know, but I know I'd like an Irish wake. I don't mean the keening, I mean the stories about me when I was alive and celebrating my life.

4. What would you like to be remembered for?

That I liked and cared about people, not just family and friends but everyone.

5. Do you believe in reincarnation?

I believe in life after death and heaven.

Feline Friday: Cats In Hats

KAT-IN-A-HAT_5.JPG

Why is it that the human pets never get tired of trying to put hats on our heads?

KAT-IN-A-HAT_3.JPG

and then they want to take pictures of us looking silly. No way!

Other efforts that failed:

The katz_2-23-06_18.JPG

A sock is not a hat!

Cute, but neither is a feathered pen...

And puh-leeze, no more hat hats either!

Four For Friday

Q1 - Birthdays: How many different birthdays do you have committed to memory, and aside from using your own noggin, how do you keep track of all the others?

Let's see: I know 16 for sure and all the rest I keep track of on my computer. :)

Q2 - Seaport Security: A government-owned company in the United Arab Emirates volunteered late yesterday afternoon to delay its $6.8 Billion takeover of most operations at six U.S. seaports. The delay allows President George W. Bush time to convince skeptical members of the U.S. Congress that the deal poses no security risks. What's your feeling on this... should the United States government allow a company based in Dubai to manage seaports in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Miami, New Orleans, New York, and Newark?

NO, I think our seaports should have been managed by American companies from the get-go! I am absolutely opposed to any foreign company running our ports!

Q3 - Telephones: Regardless of whether you use just a cell phone or a cell phone and a land line at home, does 'Voice over IP' (VoIP) technology have you thinking about switching or adding a land line at home? (In case you've never heard of VoIP, it allows for the routing of voice conversations over the Internet or any other IP-based network, and it's supposed to be a lot cheaper than paying the old-school phone companies for telephone service.)

I guess I'm already using it because I can talk to my son through the IM. And yes, it sure is cheaper and I definitely see a good use for it!

Q4 - 2006 Winter Olympics: Have you been watching the 2006 Winter Olympics on television? If so, which events have you enjoyed the most? If not, why?

I've been watching the Olympics off and on and I've enjoyed watching snowboarding the most. The athletes have been totally awesome all around!

Feline Friday: Food For Thought

2-15-2006 12-05-35 PM_0013_resize.JPG

I've heard the human pets frequently say that something they've read has given them "food for thought".

2-15-2006 12-04-59 PM_0009_resize.JPG

They are a nice healthy size so they must be getting extra nutrition from these things that they read.

2-15-2006 12-05-04 PM_0010_resize.JPG

Wonder what this food tastes like? Hopefully, something fishy....

2-15-2006 12-05-16 PM_0011_resize.JPG

Bleh...it'd be the Kashi of kitty kibble. I'll let the pets have it all.

Four For Friday

Q1 - Pictures: When was the last time someone took a picture of you, and what were you doing? If you can't remember, then when was the last time you took a picture, and what was it of?

The last time someone took a picture of me was the day of the great snow. TB surprised me while I was making pancakes & eggs for breakfast.

Q2 - Vice President Cheney: Texas authorities have already cleared U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney of any wrongdoing over last weekend's incident in which he shot, i.e., “peppered pretty well,” a 73-year-old hunting companion in the face. Do you feel the White House and Mr. Chaney himself have acted appropriately in their handling of the incident?

No, but what does it matter what I think? They're in there until 2008 and so they feel they can do whatever they want.

Q3 - Real Estate: Do you feel real estate agents' commissions are justified?

Sure, they work for it.

Q4 - Best Friends: Who was your first bestest friend, and, are you still friends with them? If you're not in touch with your first best friend, do you keep in touch with anyone you knew--aside from family--when you were between the ages of five and ten?

I'm in touch with my bestest friends of the last 10 years, Nancy, Dawn, Donna and Jean. As for the friends I had between the ages of 5 and 10--no. We moved from NY to MD when I was 10 and so I lost touch with those friends decades ago.

Feline Friday: Catching A Mouse

1-7-2006 catz_17.JPG

Hey, Senor Puss-in-Boots, want to help me catch a mouse?

1-7-2006 catz_18.JPG
Fine, I'll do it myself!

1-7-2006 catz_25.JPG

I'll just catch the mouse by the tail like this!

1-7-2006 catz_29.JPG

GOTCHA!

1-7-2006 catz_31.JPG

What do you mean, let it go? It's a mouse, isn't it? I caught it, didn't I?

Four For Friday

Q1 - Overcome: Name one physical challenge you'd like to accomplish before you die?

I have never been able to climb a rope. I think it would be cool if I could climb a rope before I died.

Q2 - Fuel: Twenty (20) years from now, what do you think you'll be using to fuel your car: Gasoline, Hydrogen, Ethanol, Biodiesel, a Hybrid System, or something else entirely?

I certainly hope we're not still stuck with gasoline. There was a car show in Philadelphia during the week and a bunch of high school students designed a cool looking car that runs on soybeans. Now, I think that would be really neat!

Q3 - Poking Fun: Cartoons first published in a Danish newspaper last fall, then reprinted in other publications across Europe in recent weeks, have sparked outrage across the Islamic world. From a cartoon image depicting Muhammad wearing a turban crafted into the shape of a bomb with a lit fuse, to another showing the seventh-century prophet standing in heaven telling a line of suicide bombers to stop because "We've run out of virgins," the cartoons hold nothing back in terms of poking fun at Muslims. Do you feel the newspapers in question were justified in publishing these cartoons? If so, would your opinion change if highly offensive cartoons related to some aspect of your own religion were published in your hometown newspaper?

I think it's terrible how things have gotten so out of hand. It all started because some Danish author wanted to write a children's book about the life of Mohammed and couldn't get anyone to illustrate it for him. So a Danish newspaper ran a contest for cartoons depicting Mohammed. The publishers say now that if they'd known ahead of time all the violence that was going to ensue, they wouldn't have published the cartoons. It seems to me that the riots are more violent than they might have been because there are terrorists and governments supporting terrorists stirring up the people.

If a highly offensive cartoon related to my religion was published in my hometown newspaper, I would be offended....but ya know, I've lived with freedom of speech my whole life so it wouldn't occur to me to try to burn down a building because of it.

Q4 - Cell Phones: How many different cell phones have you owned, and what was the reason for switching to the one you’re using now?

I've had two different kinds of cell phones. First, I had Nokia phones when I was a free lance interpreter in Maryland and then in New York. Now I have Samsung with Verizon Wireless. I switched because TB's been with Verizon for years and they really do have the best service.

Feline Friday: Uppers and Lowers

1-7-2006 catz_5.JPG

Everybody has a favoride side of the bed.

1-7-2006 catz_4.JPG

The human pets prefer the left and right sides of the upper, and I get the whole thing when they are not around.

1-7-2006 catz_2.JPG

While I like the lower because it's cool, dark and comfortable--and I can hide in the room when the pets go to sleep. My favorite night time activity is to jump on the bed and walk on their feet.

Check out all the hair under the bed--a drawback to having a long haired cat hide there!

cats_and_kids_29.jpg

Nobody has any idea how much I looove this puppy!

cats_and_kids_32.jpg

cats_and_kids_34.jpg

ACK! What is up with the camera?

cats_and_kids_35.jpg

No, it is not a case of puppy love! Why, the very idea that a regal feline such as I would denigrate herself over a stuffed dog!

cats_and_kids_39.jpg

He's nothing but a pillow as you can plainly see.

Four For Friday

Q1 - Moving: According to a recent report on American Public Media’s ‘Marketplace,’ in New York City, landlords and developers are paying big money (in some cases upwards of six figures and more) to convince renters to vacate their rent-controlled apartments. The practice, which makes way for property owners to then raise rents or build luxury condos, is now commonplace in many cities where rent-controlled housing still exists. Do you like your home or apartment? If so, what would it take to get you to agree to move?

I do like my home very much but if the price was right and the timing was right (i.e. my youngest graduated high school), I would take big money to move. I think TB would be okay with that too because where ever we are together, that is "home". We'd probably be able to get a nice place for less money by moving to a less expensive area too.

Having said that, I want to add that I think it's terrible that housing is so unaffordable for so many Americans. Our county in NJ is the second-to-least expensive in terms of renting 2 bedroom apts and yet, the price is still too high for many residents: over $900/mo. Where are people supposed to live, especially when they work minimum wage jobs in expensive areas? It's a deplorable situation but I don't know what can be done about it.

Q2 - You Choose: Which is more important to you... Liberty or Security?

My husband and I have been talking about this. Of course we want us to be safe from terrorists and so we'd probably choose security. Yet, at the same time, we know that once we give up some of our civil rights it won't end...it'll go on. We'll lose more of our liberties for safety's sake--how far will it go? Ultimately, we wouldn't be secure from even our own government. It's scary to contemplate.

Q3 - Drinking: If you could drink anything right now--alcoholic or otherwise--what and how much of it would you drink?

I could go for a 2 liter bottle of that new Black Cherry Vanilla Diet Coke!

Q4 - Counting: How many light bulbs are in your home, and when was the last time you had to change one?

Oh boy, Oma would know this one--she used to dust all her light bulbs. I have no clue how many bulbs we have in the home. The last time I had to change one? Probably around Christmas!

Four For Friday:

Q1 - Teachers: The Houston Independent School District (HISD) is about to become the largest public school district in the United States to tie teachers' pay to their students' standardized test scores. How do you feel about this? Do you feel HISD and other school districts around the country should be able to tie teacher pay to student performance, or should merit or something else aside from student performance figure into the equation?

I do believe that teachers' salaries and student performance should be tied together but I'm not sure using standardized test scores is the answer. Merit and experience should also have an influence on how much a teacher makes but I frankly think now that most of it should be based on students' performance. A tenured teacher with a masters could be an ineffective teacher and why should that person make so much more than a teacher with less credentials but is more effective? I mean, the point is to teach kids, right?

Q2 - Osama: Do you honestly think Osama bin Laden will ever be captured or killed by U.S. troops?

Maybe when a cold frost sets in hell.

Q3 - Emotion: When and why was the last time you screamed at the top of your lungs?

It was sometime after Rich died. I was alone in my car, parked, and I just started screaming my head off. I felt better for a little while.

Q4 - Your Bed: Is your bed really comfortable, or do you live with poor sleep caused by the quality of your bedding?

My bed is really comfortable!

Feline Friday: Oh No Not Again!

In the continuing saga of cat humiliation and torture, Mouse realizes to her dismay why the travel crates haven't been put away!

Kat_bath_11-30-05_1.jpg

Why is the Heidi pet hugging me and saying sorry sorry sorry? Wait a minute! Where are we going?

Kat_bath_11-30-05_5.jpg

Nooooooooo! Not this again! Run, Amber, run!

Kat_bath_11-30-05_7.jpg

Thanks, Mouse, they won't get me and then I'll come rescue you!

Kat_bath_11-30-05_10.jpg

Foul! I say, foul! I was tricked! That wasn't real turkey! I was had! Trapped!

Kat_bath_11-30-05_43.jpg
Oooooh, you human pets are in big trouble now!

Kat_bath_11-30-05_15.jpg

Where are we going? Not back to that scarecrow in scrubs!

No...it was to a groomer for a bath and brush. TB and Heidi are allergic to cat dander or fur and it was really getting to them. It was time to do something because we'd gotten out of the habit of applying Nova Pearls (something that Amber and Mouse absolutely detest as well).

We have to find a place that's closer! On the way Mouse yowled so mournfully and so loud no one could hear the radio or what another person was saying! The groomer said they did very well, except that Amber tried to claw her way straight up the wall.

TB and I really wanted to take pictures but we figured we paparazzi'ed the kitties enough at home and we didn't want everyone, including the groomer, to freak out and so we restrained ourselves.

Once back home...

Kat_bath_11-30-05_22.jpg

Oh, stop trying to make up to me! I know I smell pretty!

Kat_bath_11-30-05_23.jpg

I'm still very mad! Let me go now and maybe I won't wee on you!

Meanwhile...

Traumatic Tuesday

amber_5_8_05_4.jpg

You won't believe what humiliation and torture those human pets subjected us to this time! Tell them, Amber!

amber_5_8_05_2.jpg

Oh, the horror! I'm still recovering from the shock of it all...no, you tell it, Mouse!

Flashback...

Kat_bath_11-30-05_35.jpg

Here I am...minding my own business doing what cats do naturally...and then the human pets swept down on us ...

Kat_bath_11-30-05_18.jpg

Kat_bath_11-30-05_14.jpg

and stuffed us into these kitty jails when we didn't even do anything!

Then we were dragged out into the night and catnapped to this awful place that lets in all manner of base animals--like dogs--and we were assaulted by a tall skinny man in blue scrubs who stuck us with sharp needles and told our pets that we were fat and had to go on diets!

The nerve!

But that's all right...what goes around comes around. The pets were paid back for their cruelty when all the power went out in the house later that evening. There was silence in the house...no television, no music, no computers, no lights. We were the only ones who could see in the dark without flashlights!

The two adult pets couldn't sleep because there was no electricity for their CPAP machines. That'll show you, we thought, able to make our way into any nook or cranny without walking into a wall. Bet you pets will never try that again!

Wrong...tune in tomorrow.

Thursday Threesome:

::Christmas Elf Gifs::

Onesome: Christmas-- "Christmas is coming; the goose is getting fat..." Nope, I'm not going there, not by a long shot! How about: Even though we just finished up the Thanksgiving meal, what dish are you looking forward to most at Christmas time? ...and yes, Christmas cookies count!

Irish soda bread--if I make it, usually it's only around Christmas. Then, of course, there's all the Christmas cookies -- that I won't enjoy unless I find some from Weight Watchers!

Twosome: Elf-- Who is your favorite Christmas Elf? Mom? Dad? Will Farrell? That guy who helps you at the tree place each year?

TB

Threesome: Gifs-- How about your favorite bit of Christmas artwork? Is it a painting? ...a cartoon? ...your special ornament? ...the tree in the town square?

There's someone in the neighborhood who does up the house and we can see it when we cross the bridge to and from our development. I call it "the showboat" and Kristin calls it the "Titanic".

I have too many favorite ornaments to try and choose one.

I love Renaissance art. Here is just one example, a wood cutting of Joseph, Mary & Baby Jesus by Albrecht Durer.

There are other famous works, too, by Da Vinci, Raphael, and Michelangelo...check them out online!

Feline Friday: Black Friday Edition

2005-10-1_21.JPG

Here we sit waiting for all the human pets to get back after venturing forth on "Black Friday", whatever that is! What foolishness! Yesterday they stuffed themselves with cat food--turkeys are supposed to be for us, right?

87th Carnival of the Cats

When we remembered we were hosting the 87th Carnival of the Cats--a first for us, we immediately got nervous and needed to nap and escape from it all! We hope we did this right, if not, blame the pet, not the cats! Make sure to click on Continue Reading for the extended entry!

Feline Friday

new-furniture_2.JPG

We're hosting Carnival of the Cats for the first time on Monday! Mommy just went to check on the submissions so far...we better get a lot of rest, we're going to need it! ;)

In other news: So yesterday was a real emotional roller coaster of a day. I was very very happy to see Tomas again and so was Heidi. Kristin missed the visit and so did TB so they were both pretty down about it. Last evening was stressful and so today I just feel totally emotionally drained.

Feline Friday: Meowoween

2005-10-1_5.JPG

I think I'll be a ghost this year. What do you think of my costume?

2005-10-1_6.JPG

When the four legged pets are least expecting it, I'll jump out and meow boo!

2005-10-1_8.JPG

I think that would be an awesome trick!

2005-10-1_12.JPG

Of course, if they had a tasty enough treat for me, I wouldn't have to pull the trick!

2005-10-1_9.JPG

Mmmmmmmm...."Anticipation is making me wait...."

Friday Fun

1. Are you a coffee or tea hound? If so, what is your favorite everyday poison?

I'm a bona fide coffee-holic!

2. Are you a Starbucks fan, or another brand?

Not Starbucks! Their regular hot coffee is way too strong and bitter, I would grow hair on my chest! My favorite brands are Maxwell House and Chock-Full-O-Nuts

3. If you are a coffee drinker, brewed or instant? If you prefer tea, loose or bagged?

Instant! Blech! It has to be brewed!

4. What is your average daily intake?

At least a pot a day...hmmmm...perhaps I should cut back? Naaaaaaah....

Feline Friday on Saturday

2005-9-24_44.JPG

Remember how last time Amber felt left out and wanted to play chase the toy too?

2005-9-24_45.JPG

Here's where we left Amber, considering her next move.

2005-9-24_55.JPG

She's still considering it.

2005-9-24_56.JPG

Hey, gimme a break! I'm just being careful, checking it out from all angles!

2005-9-24_57.JPG

Eh, it doesn't smell like fish or chicken or mouse.

2005-9-24_59.JPG

Oh, give me that thing! I know what to do with it!

2005-9-24_40.JPG

Nobody ever lets me play!

2005-9-24_26.JPG

Oh, no you don't! Not again--fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!

2005-9-24_25.JPG

No shame for me...I'm having fun!

Feline Friday: At Play

The best toys are the home made ones, aren't they? Heidi made a pipe cleaner ring and tied some old shoe laces to it. We've been having fun with the cats, especially Mouse.

2005-9-24_53.JPG

Why hello there, here I am playing one of my favorite games....

2005-9-24_48.JPG

...Tug'o'war!

2005-9-24_45.JPG

How come I don't get to play?

2005-9-24_44.JPG

Well, Amber, you always just sort of sit there!

2005-9-24_40.JPG

Do not!

2005-9-24_59.JPG

Okay, catch!

2005-9-24_58.JPG

Too far! Can't reach!

2005-9-24_41.JPG

Yeah, this is going to take a week! Check back next Friday...

Friday Fun

1. If somebody gets a "boo boo", are you the one they run to, or are you squeamish?

Moms are not supposed to get squeamish! Yes, when the kids were little and had boo-boos, they would run to me...or to their dad if I wasn't around.

2. Are you accident prone? Do you know someone who seems to be?

I am most definitely accident prone!

3. What was your last foolish injury, the one that just makes you shake your head? (There is a reason for this question,... read my blog entry and you'll get it!!)

I was walking along, talking to friends Robin and Cheryl, and all of a sudden I just fell flat on my face and turned my ankle. Duh!

Feline Friday: Photo Shoot

amber-mouse_15.jpg

Uh-oh, here comes Mommy again with the camera!

amber-mouse_12.jpg

Why does she do this every week? When those lights start flashing, I can't see anything!

amber-mouse_3.jpg

Fine, go ahead, take my picture, I'm not looking!

amber-mouse_4.jpg

Hey, what's this? It just jumped off the camera and it's swinging back and forth!

amber-mouse_5.jpg

Let me see if I can catch it! It's much bigger than those spiders I've been catching, maybe it'll be twice as tasty!

amber-mouse_6.jpg

Argh, it keeps flying away every time I bat it!

amber-mouse_7.jpg

Oh, never mind, I didn't want it anyway!

I am newly hooked on Lost so there was no way I could resist this meme!

Friday Fiver:

1. What is the most important thing you've ever lost?

My journals--they covered a period of almost 20 years.

2. When is the last time you lost your keys?

Just the other day! :P

3. Have you ever felt like you've lost your mind?

Nearly all the time!

4. Are you likely to ask for directions when lost or to continue to wander?

I always ask for directions! I don't like not knowing where I'm going!

5. Numerology: reliable or just a load of bunk?

There's patterns everywhere, including in the Bible, so I think there's something to it. Math and numbers are probably more reliable than a lot of other things!

Feline Friday: Star

cats_8_3_05_30.jpg

Great news! I'm starring in the next Tim Burton film.

cats_8_3_05_23.jpg

It's totally non-demanding. All I have to do is maintain my pose and look beautiful!

cats_8_3_05_31.jpg

Guess who I'll be playing? Mouse, Mouse? Aren't you interested?

cats_8_3_05_25.jpg

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

cats_8_3_05_27.jpg

Well, I'll tell you anyway. I'm going to be the Sphinx!

cats_8_3_05_26.jpg

Aren't I just purrrrfect for it? I rather look like her, don't I -- but much more beautiful, of course!

Friday Fun:

1. What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?

Go to the bathroom!

2. What is your first memory?

The first thing I can remember is going into the kitchen to get a bottle from my mom. I went back to the living room to lie down on the couch and was watching cartoons. I guess I was between 2 and 3.

3. If you won a million dollars, what is the first thing you would do with it?

Pay off every last bill

4, How old were you when you first realized that YOU were the adult now?

I've always been the adult...but it probably really hit me when I moved out on my own and had to support myself. I was 18 or 19.

Four For Friday:

Q1: If you were offered an opportunity to travel free of charge to any destination on earth for just a 30 minutes visit, where would you choose to go and why?

I can only stay 30 minutes? I'd like to use the loo at Buckingham Palace then I guess.

Q2: Have you ever taken a cooking class? If so, was it fun and worthwhile, or did you feel it was a waste of your time and money? If you've never taken a cooking class, would you like to enroll in one? If so, what cuisine or techniques would like to learn?

I took a Chinese cooking class with my cousin back in 1985. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot of useful techniques.

Q3: With Category 4 and 5 hurricanes dominating the news, how prepared would you say you are to successfully ride out a major storm like Katrina or Rita? Said differently, do you have enough supplies on hand to be able to cope with the fallout that accompanies power outages and the like? If not, are you now thinking about stockpiling supplies such as drinking water, food, gasoline, medicines, batteries, etc.?

As of this moment, I probably have enough water for a couple of days. TB has a full tank of gas and I'm 2/3 full. We have enough medicines but definitely not enough food or batteries. We'd also need propane gas if we lost our electricity and couldn't cook. We probably should stockpile more but don't have a lot of room to keep stuff.

Q4: The average automobile stands still 23 hours a day. How about yours... how many hours a day would you say your car sits idle (not counting being caught in stop-and-go traffic)?

Now that Billy's away at college and since my surgery, my car sits in the driveway sometimes a couple of days without going anywhere.

Feline Friday: Mousie Mousie Mousie

amber-and-cassie_3.jpg

Our Amber looks troubled this morning. What's the matter, Amber?

amber-and-cassie_4.jpg

I've been cute and funny but can't get any face time! For three weeks now, it's been Mousie Mousie Mousie!

amber-and-cassie_6.jpg

Am I invisible or what?

amber-and-cassie_7.jpg

Ahhhh....that's better!

amber-and-cassie_17.jpg

Nothing like a little TLC to drive those blues away!

Feline Friday: Hide & Seek

cats_8_3_05_22.jpg

I've found the perfect place to hide!

cats_8_3_05_20.jpg

Mommy will never find me in all this mess!

cats_8_3_05_19.jpg

She goes that way and doesn't see me.

cats_8_3_05_17.jpg

Then she goes the other way and still doesn't see me.

cats_8_3_05_16.jpg

Uh-oh, she's looking right at me but...I still have my invisibility cloak on!

cats_8_3_05_11.jpg

Rats! I've been found!

cats_8_3_05_9.jpg

Now I'm going to go pout. Maybe I'll turn invisible again!

Feline Friday

Scribblings been nominated as a weekly favorite in the Family & Parenting category of Blogs for Women! If you like Scribblings, please vote on the drop-down menu here. Scribblings is second on the list.

On Tuesday morning, Linda asked me if I was doing anything today. She said she'd bring the baby over this morning. The morning is almost over and no sign of them yet.

Tednmouse1.jpg

Mouse used to be an outdoor cat before she was given over to the shelter. I once had a cat that was beaten almost to death by a nasty neighbor and I swore I would never let any of my cats roam around outdoors again. Still, we knew that Mouse would enjoy being outdoors now and then so we got a leash for her. She was in her glory the day these pictures were taken.

tednpets1.jpg

"Wait a minute ... who invited you?"

mousevbuddy2.jpg

Buddy obviously wants to know what's going on. "Go away!" Mouse hisses. "You weren't invited!"

mousevbuddy.jpg

"But I want to get on the table and get petted too, it looks like fun!"

mouseted.jpg

"Thank you for saving me but you can let go now ... you can let go now ...oh come on, let go already!"

QOTD:

Today is the filing deadline for Americans to file their income taxes. If this applies to you, have you files yours? Did you have to pay or are you due a refund?

Our federal has been filed but I'm not sure TB's even finished filling out the state. We're getting a small refund, I think. We might have to pay on the state ... I'm not sure.

Are you a person who is usually ahead of deadlines or are you a person who stretches it to the last minute?

It depends on which benefits me more.

Friday Nine:

1. Word assocation--

I say "glue"; you say Elmer's.
I say "sherpa"; you say what?
I say "honey"; you say bee

2. Which is worse: dying young without falling in love or dying middle-aged with young children?

Well, my first husband died at 40 and we had young children so I would say that is, in my opinion, much worse than dying young without falling in love.

3. Fill in the blanks: in high school, I am/was a smart aleck.

4. On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you enjoy the taste of peanut butter?

8

5. What program do you use to play music files?

Good question. I think I use Real Player but I'm not sure. :P

6. Do you prefer using mechanical or "retro" pencils?

I like the good ole retro #2.

7. Name the last dessert you ate.

chocolate chip cookies

8. Do you think it's fair that if a common person had a sex tape released his/her life would basically go down the crapper, but when a celebrity's tape pops up, he/she gains even more fame?

Of course, but a lot of what happens in life isn't fair. So it goes

9. Surprise! The Simple Life producers want your family to host Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie for The Simple Life 9. What do you do?

Scream and hide under the bed ... actually, I would just say "How much?"
