I saw a book title that I totally love: All Cats Have Asberger's Syndrome. Someday I am going to get that book because it suddenly helped me understand something about not only LIttle T but also about our gang of kitties--
they don't look when you call them
they totally ignore you when you talk (most of the time)
they don't want you to pick them up unless they come to you first
they don't want to do what you want them to do unless they're willing
Like ... taking a picture for Tummy Tuesday
Mouse was on our bed, rolling on his back and enjoying myself and so I brought out my camera. And what do you think happened? Click on the picture for the whole story!

First Amber discovered the cozy benefits of lounging in front of my computer screen. Then Mouse saw what a good deal she had and began arriving before she did to plop himself in the coveted spot. Amber wasn't interested in fighting with Mouse and so he got used this being "his" spot.
Newcomer Kosmo also likes to plop in front of the computer. Usually it's not an issue as they jump up at different times...except for this one particular day. For quite a few long seconds, neither one was going to give way to the other but then finally Kosmo gave it up and came back later.

Why are very hot days just called "dog days"? Amber knows how to get through the heat--don't move! She doesn't quite have room to show all of her tummy in its splendiferous glory but feels we should be happy we get this much. For the last several weeks she's been in hiding much of the time, sulking over the new kitty in the family, Indigo.

And where is the next Carnival of the Cats? It's going to be at The Scratching Post sometime after 7 or so on Sunday!
It's been a couple of weeks since I introduced Indigo and in that time, she's remained reclusive. Heidi, our artist, has the largest and most cluttered room in the house. Indy prefers the artist's lifestyle and spends 99% of her time there. The other day, I thought I would get some updated pictures to share and found Indy on the edge of Heidi's bed.

Oh no you don't, said Indigo, I'm no model! No headshots of me!
She retreated to just outside Heidi's closet, throwing the camera all sorts of evil kitty looks. Heidi went to her and easily picked her up and coaxed her into posing for me.
Heidi has always wanted a cat that would love her and want to spend time with her...and Indy seems to be exactly the kitty for her!

About a year ago, I noticed Mouse was infatuated with my stuffed puppy! I'd never seen a cat get so into kneading something!

This was when we still thought Mouse was a female and it was the puppy who helped us figure out Mouse's secret!
Then Kosmo joined the household and the boys tend to hang out together the most. Kosmo is a very observant cat as TB found out one day. He happened to see my camera nearby.

Aw look, Kosmo is kneading too!

Ah, yes, sez Mouse, he learned from the best!

Er ... what's that he's doing now?

Mouse sez, uh, I don't think I showed him that.

Kosmo sez, call of the wild, baby, what can I say?

But we're on camera!

Mouse sez, well, I'm outta here, I'm not that kind of guy! I don't do kitty porn!
My guys and gals don't like to show off their tummies too often. I got lucky here. I was playing with Kosmo and he rolled back to take a break. Luckily, I whipped out my handy dandy camera, distracted him and snap!

So, Kosmo, what are you going to post about?

We have a new feline addition to our household! Her name is Indigo and she is a beautiful little cat. Right now she is in hiding and I wasn't going to subject her to my camera (yet) but here is her picture from the poster I saw at our grocery store.

I was very touched by the message: "Lovable cat needs good home. We took her in as a result of a death in the family and are no longer able to care for her. Indigo is up to date on her shots and comes with food, toys, and litter pans. She is a sweet cat that loves attention and would make a great addition to your life."
I looked at her picture and felt I had to contact the people caring for her. Mouse was put up for adoption by a man who'd just lost his wife and felt he couldn't take care of her cat. I thought that Mouse and Indigo would have something in common...not to mention the fact that they look a little alike.
I talked to TB about it and he was more than agreeable so I contacted the owners and we went over to visit this afternoon. I fell in love with Indy right away. The young women, cousins, told us that Indy belonged to a distant relation who'd died before Christmas. The man had been a veteran of one of the wars and had been injured. He had a mechanical larynx but didn't speak much. The women thought that he might not have called Indy much by name because she didn't respond to the sound of it.
Or ... it just occurred to me that the sound of the name Indigo would be very different coming from a mechanical larynx, wouldn't it?
Indigo grieved for her owner for a few months but seemed to be adjusting okay. But now the women are moving and they can't take the little cat.
I am so glad I saw that ad in the store. Indy is a beautiful little kitty and I hope that she adjusts well here. Mouse and Kosmo have "met" her and Mouse was more curious than anything else. Kosmo was mad. He hissed and spat at her, which is unfortunate. I'm not sure how Amber feels about her new sister yet.
So now we have 4 kitties.
My friend Jeannie sent me links to really cute videos and they are too adorable not to share.
Kosmo says, I heard that TB didn't like cats. Could that be true?

For Cats on Tuesday:
I just love my new camera. It takes great close up shots. I do most of my practicing on Amber, not necessarily the most photogrenic or patient but surely the slowest kitty in the house.

Her favorite perch is right in front of my computer and that is where I keep my camera. I was sitting this far from Amber when I took the next picture. I just used the zoom lens.

In other news: I saw my friendly new DVR (Division of Vocational Rehabilitation) counselor this morning and talked about how to get me back into the work force. I would like to and feel I can handle a part time teacher's aide job and the counselor agreed this would be a good job for me. I had a psych eval last year before Tomas came to live with us and the doctor felt that fibromyalgia and my physical injuries would be the biggest impediment to work and that emotionally I could handle it. Yay! Well, with the ADA it wouldn't be hard to get accommodations--I just need to be able to stand up or sit down as needed and I have enough stamina to go part time.
Billy went back to RPI after his week long spring break. I missed him almost immediately. Well, May is coming...
Heidi & Kristin are doing great. TB and another employee where he works had words. The other guy is pissed off about something and it's just one of those man-things. It seems to have been straightened out, thank goodness. TB doesn't need any more aggravation than he's already got.
And in the world of agita, Linda was supposed to start work through a temp agency today. It sounds like a scene right out of The Grapes of Wrath when the foreman comes to hire from a bunch of guys standing around desperate for jobs. She shows up and there are half a dozen other people there or so. The boss comes out, says I need 5, picks out the five and the others are left out to dry. The temp agency had a representative there too and I wondered why that rep didn't speak up? Say something like, "Hey you can't have our agency send 8 people out and then you only pick 5."
Tomas had a bacterial infection but is doing much better! His class is having a St. Patrick's day party on Friday and I will be there with my leprechaun hat on!

Mouse: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
My friend in the Netherlands sent new pictures of family and her little kitten, Luka, a while back. Isn't he adorable?

What dreamy eyes!
I realize that Luka is the type of kitty TB would like to have some day. He wants an orange tabby that he can name Hobbes ... the stuffed tiger pal of little Calvin from that wonderful and much missed comic strip, Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson.

Hmmm, this is interesting. Wonder what it is?

Wonder who belongs to it?

Oh well, doesn't matter ... whatever it is, it's mine now!

Kitten and cat lovers, the 151st Carnival is up at one of my favorite blogs, When Cats Attack!!
I say... and you think ...
Doesn't Kosmo have a look of royalty about him?
He is a very sweet natured, patient guy--around us two legged critters anyway. I got a new camera for Christmas and took what seemed like hundreds of pictures of him. I thought he'd get sick of the flashes going off but I guess the paparazzi wouldn't faze him one little bit!
I uploaded the nicest of the the pictures and cropped some of them to see how they'd come out. Click on the pic if you want to see more!

If Cats Wrote Christmas Cards
Meowy Christmas from your loving cat.
Aren't I cute?
Now leave me the hell alone.
We, your cats, at Christmas say,
Thanks for caring for us each day.
We love this season, all green and red,
And by the way, the hamster's dead.
As watchman-cat, I've done my job,
The house is safe once more.
That shiny stuff that stormed the tree
Is dead now on the floor.
Wrapping paper! Ribbon! Bows!

Shiny! Shiny! Christmas balls!

Well, hello there, I'm Kosmo, the new kid on the block here so Mouse & Amber say I have to take a turn at this carnival of the cats event. If I do this right, we can get to have the carnival here again! Over this last week, the humans celebrated "Thanksgiving". You know what, my human pets didn't even take any pictures of us this week although we were lying around in our splendiferous glory. One thing I am very greatful for is the fact that I am a much-loved and honored cat and not a human.
They get so busy this time of the year and then they just totally collapse on the floor like the Sims on that silly computer they're so entranced by. Why don't they just curl up and nap like we do? Silly people. With our pets, it was not only picking up people from college, taking younger family members to and from places they needed to go, spending an entire day Wednesday at a children's hospital with the littlest one, there was also much ado in the kitchen in the wee hours.
That was the best part. The delicious smells. And oh, the turkey! Still...no pictures of us or even of them indulging. Tsk tsk. Well, maybe it's better there weren't any pictures of us lying around in stuffed bliss--we all ended up more stuffed than the turkey! Now, you would think the humans would have enough sense sleep and let the tryptophan work its magic but, oh no, they were off and running again--not participating in "Black Friday" but in a whole bunch of other shenanigans.
The Cassie-pet is going to make a post about the human goings-on so I'll stop rambling and get to the important part: the 140th Carnival of the Cats!
Up First
So sorry to hear that both Duncan and Alex of Texas Oasis are having such terrible health issues! Here's cyber best wishes that both kitties are doing much better!
On the bright and up side, The Taylor CatSSSSSdedicate the blog to the doctor and staff at the hospital that saved little KC! Earlier, KC was one very sick little kitten! Here is a visit to KC who didn't look very well. All our kitties should have vets as dedicated and caring as Dr. Smith!
Things are also getting back to normal at Yourish. It's good to see the kitties feeling better!
There is a very touching tribute to a very special kitty, Cotton, at Wind in the Wire.
Thanksgiving & Black Friday
Did anyone else have felines doing the turkey dance as happened at No Deep Thoughts?
Over at Sisu's, Tiny inspects the "Thanksgiving lite" table. There are sweet pictures of Tiny and Tuck givin each other little lovin. Then Tiny takes a little morning after tryptophan tripping. Here are two different faces of Tiny, note the state of alertness in this lovely kitty and then the state of relaxation.
Then, of course, there's the usual over indulgence in turkisaurus...hope this kitty at Ambivablog didn't get a tummy ache!
Maybe that kitty needs to pick up some meal time etiquette from Xena the Prowler and Kai the Beggar at Chris Dolley's place.
OR...Hakuna and Matata show off their most excellent table manners over at Blog d'Elisson. Our guys could use some lessons from them, right, Amber?

Amber says: Manners, schmanners, just give me the turkey NOW.
Another satisfied Thanksgiving feline face at Stereophilia! At the same home, Huckleberry expresses some dismay at the size of the turkey!
Thanksgiving pay-offs for Piper at TBIFOC!
Here are some morning after turkey stalkers at Composite Drawings
Ah, the turkey was also delicious at The Scratching Post. Now the tryptophan kicks in. Is there any tryptophan in tuna?
Tryptophan kicks in for Loki at Lemons & Lollipops. Uh-oh! It looks like he's had a little too much turkey and doesn't quite fit in the box he's chosen to nap in!
Not all kitties wanted to indulge in turkey: there was a crab feast at Beezer's!
Other Felines in the News
The "quadrupeds" at Enrevanche are being treated to some special pampering while the bipeds are on vacation!
Tater and Trinket of Catymology got to enjoy a little vacation in feline paradise. Is this heaven? No, it's Ohio.
Now, here is another bit of kitty paradise: Purrniture. What a great name for kitty condos!
"Allan's kitty says: Dude. There's no way I'm going shopping on Black Friday. Me neither!
At The Peach Pit, it looks like this kitty took in some Friday shopping and ended up in a Kohl's bag!
Ostara's Sam says, I do the channel surfing around here! That is most definitely a guy thing especially when the commercials come on!
Along similar lines, Bebe at The Poor Mouth says wait, wait, wait! I'm not done with this page yet!
Mags is besotted with her kitty and no wonder: what a hard worker!
Laughing Muse says, "I felt poorly this weekend, so stayed home...and photographed my cats. I think they may try to grow opposable thumbs just to disassemble the camera."
Feline Philosophy features photos of stray kitties, accompanied by words of wisdom!
At Da Nator's a family of feral cats are treated to a fine feast. It's good to hear that Ma Nator is trying to make sure the kitties are fed.

Amber was sitting by my side as we read through the Carnival submissions and she definitely wants a cat cozy for Christmas this year. They are free with a donation to a most excellent cause: books for Israel!
Wylie is showing off his lovely warm winter coat. The coat goes along very well with Babified's cool seasonal layout!
Everything I ever needed to learn in life I learned from a cat's butt! Amazed and confused? So was I when I saw the title of the post but actually what Kenton Winton says makes a lot of sense so stop scratching!
Calais at Crazy Meezer is all tongue twisted!
Adorable neighboring kitties are featured at Elms in the Yard!
Check out Abby at Manx News. She does look like the look of movie star about her! And that does pose an interesting question: what famous person resembles our kitties?
And check out Tigger showing off his "gravity defying talents" at Pets Garden Blog!
Tigger at Val's Bienis a gorgeous kitty! Here he perches with ease and grace!
Is this a great tummy shot over at Watermark's? I wish I could catch one of our kitties in that pose! Speaking of great shots, also check out the Warhol kitties!
Ivy seems to be settling in quite nicely at Strange Ranger's. And here Maddie relaxes in her favorite spot.
Check out It's All Good. Doesn't Nicky have some gorgeous eyes? What a regal looking kitty all right!
Don't you just love the way cats will sometimes demand attention? This is a familiar scene for us, too, Maggie!
Another familiar scene: just got back from vacation and how do the kitties react to our return? I had to smile about the two very different reactions of Orloff and Pushkin at Begin Each Day...'s.
House of Chaos has an interesting post about purring and a sweet, touching photo of Zorro giving comfort to Crittur.
The Cassie-pet hopes she got all the links right, she said to ask you to leave a message if she made a mess in her computer box and needs to clean it up. Now I'm going to take a nap...but before I do, let me just say that next week's carnival will be hosted at Catymology. See you there!
So long foks, have a great week!

Hey, I think I see something! Is it them?

Yup, it's them, it's the carnival...they're coming!

But why is it taking so long to get them here?

Our human pets have been running around like turkeys all week and weekend long. But the female pet is getting her act together and the carnival is halfway put together. Tune in tomorrow!

Meanwhile, have a nice nap!
I don't know why, I just really like this picture of Mouse.

He just sort of looks...distinguished. And I notice he's sprouting some white chin whiskers now as he approaches middle feline age!

My new bed is a little lumpy but still quite cozy and fits me just fine!

But hark, who is that who approaches and dares disturb my dreams?

Aha, it's a "copycat"! But now I have to find a new place to nest!
