Second Hand Smoke & Children

I am really glad that Kennan gets to spend time with Little T on the weekends. It's good for both of them.

What's not so good is that T is exposed to second hand smoke in the house, thanks to Kennan's brother-in-law.

There's been a lot of studies about the effects of side stream smoking on kids. This article reports the latest research. Much of it was absolutely no surprise to me, particularly this statement:

People who were exposed as children to secondhand smoke for several hours on a daily basis were 3.6-times more likely to develop lung cancer during adulthood than their unexposed counterparts.

I was exposed to secondhand smoke for several hours on a daily basis for years. Both my parents smoked. So I won't be surprised if I get some respiratory ailment. But my kids have not had that and I hope they will never smoke or marry someone who does.

I wish I could inspire Kennan to demand his brother-in-law stop smoking in that house!
