A Silver Lining

Last night, the superintendent of schools appeared on the county's TV channel. He was very calm and reasonable as he explained what happened yesterday. Someone called the police yesterday and said there were 3 kids in school with guns and maybe a bomb.

The three kids were looked up and taken to the principal's office for questioning. I don't know what was learned but apparently the authorities decided to evacuate the school.

The superintendent admitted that yes, things became chaotic. Yes, the kids did stand outside in the field for hours and hours. Yes, they were taken to a different location, partly for their safety and partly to get something to drink and use the bathrooms. Billy told me that when he got to the junior high, no one would let him in to use the bathroom, get water, or use a public phone! Things did not go smoothly.

Out of this, though, the superintendent announced he would be meeting with people today to talk about what needs to be done so this chaos and confusion doesn't happen again.

I felt better hearing him explain and make promises. So, could it happen again? Of course...but at least they're not trying to cover it up!
