I've always known I was born in the wrong decade...

This year I tried to have everything planned and organized.
Not that I haven't tried in the past. Through the years
I learned, tried different things, discarded what worked
and kept what did.
I made a menu, then made lists. I decided when to have the
cleaning done, thought out what I could cook the day before,
what and how to cook on the day of, and figured out some ways
to make clean up easier.
This year it went the smoothest it ever has. I guess after 25
years of cooking for holidays and big family dinners I'm getting
this down. I have often marveled at how my Grandmas, Mom
and Aunts put on big dinners and never lost their cool. Seemed
to enjoy themselves.
Maybe like me, it was years of on the job training. lol
This year was the first time no one had to run out to the store
for a forgotten item.
This year I didn't try to do everything thing myself. I let
others help. My friend Sandy and my daughter were with me
cooking in the kitchen. My son and husband came in and did
some helping too.
We had food out for people to munch on before the big meal.
Cheeseball and crackers. Raw veggies and dip. Cookies.
Fudge. Olives and pickles.
For the meal:
Turkey, stuffing, 2 gravies (a special one for my daughter
who is a vegatarian) mashed potatoes, glazed carrots,
green beans, green bean casserole, brussel sprouts,
corn casserole, pasta salad, cheesy bread, rolls and
cranberry sauce.
Desserts:
Pumpkin pie, The next best thing to Robert Redford,
Oreo cake, Apple Dumplings with ice cream.
After the meal the dishes were quickly rinsed and
stacked. The meal prep dishes and most of the pots
and pans had already been washed in dishwasher
while we ate. Those were put away. And the next
load put in. We cleared the table and played
games and visited. And snacked. At 8:30
I put together food for people to take home.
Sounds like a lot of work, but at the end of it
I wasn't so worned out as I usually am after
entertaining a big group.
I thought about my Grandmas. The size of my
holiday meal and the number of people weren't
as big as what they had had.
I remember their T-day meals including turkey,
ham and a goose. Plus many pies, cakes and
etc. And many, many more side dishes. They
always handled feeding the crowd with grace
and joy.
Maybe I am finally getting there.

I don't drink, but I sure do feel hung over. I ate so much yesterday that all I wanted to do today was sleep. I made a great dinner. We had turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, roasted garlic mashed potatoes and rolls. David made Pumpkin and sweet potato pies for desert.
I have so much to be thankful for and I thanked God for it all. He has been so good to us this year. We have a nice home and car, 4 beautiful children, Family who love us and I could go on and on. How was everyone else's day? I would love to hear about it.

I'm grateful for so much:
My husband, kids, Linda, Tomas, Michele, David, Brandon, Ryan, Taylor, Nikolas
My friends, on and off the Internet

My cats, who let me pet them when I'm really upset or sad!

My health ... and finding out that what's going on is manageable
My home
My extended family
Music
Turkeys

and for the check that finally finally finally arrived today!!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

This has been the first weekend that David has been off since he started working for Advance auto parts. Yesterday we took the kids to the Knoxville zoo. It was free parking and admission day. It was a little chilly, but a wonderful time. Today we are going to take the kids to the Sevierville park and have a picnic and let them play. The kids love when we do different things with them. We love spending time with them and doing things as a family. They are lucky. I have a friend that doesn't do anything with her kids and they are always home and the kids are left to fend for themselves. They are young kids like mine. I don't see how parents can be that way with the kids. When I was little my parents would take us to the drive in and we would go camping in Cape May. That was fun. I would also go do stuff with my Grandparents. I loved that! We want our kids to remember all the fun stuff we did with them and have lots of fun memories of us. I know that they will.
I started responding to Michelle and Nancy's comments about my
Thanksgiving entry. And it got too long. So I thought it would be
better to make a new entry.
Your Thanksgivings both sound great
I'm so happy your family enjoyed the
corn casserole Nancy.
Hey! I have an idea.
We ought to post meal ideas for left overs.
Of course we know turkey salad sandwiches
are delicious.
What about a Sheperd's pie? Using turkey, gravy
and mashed potatoes with some other veggies
thrown in.
My mother in law makes a great casserole
with stuffing and turkey.
Have you ever heard of a Hot Brown?
I use to go to this place and have that.
It's light rye bread and turkey sandwich.
On top of that you put tomato slices.
A cheese sauce and a couple of strips of
crisp bacon. I've have to try to find a recipe.
It was soooooo good.
Thanksgiving will be here before you know it.
Most years we have Thanksgiving at home.
With family and or friends. A couple we've
gone to family homes for the day and a couple of times
we've gone out to eat and a movie.
One year we did both. On Thanksgiving Day our
children were in NYC marching with the highschool
band in the Macy's parade. So John and I went out to dinner
and a movie with friends. Then when the kids had gotten home
we fixed Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings.
This year we'll be having it at home with friends.
What are your Thanksgiving plans? And what is on the menu?
I'll be roasting a turkey, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots,
green beans, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, veg. gravy,
corn casserole veg. dressing, apple dumplings, pumpkin
pie, pumpkin bread, cheese ball, veggies and dip,
chocolate pie.
My friend Sandy is making her cheesey bread, dressing
and pasta salad. And her husband Ted is making chocolate
fudge.
That's a lot of food. But we be having leftover all weekend.
Yum
The guys will be watching football and the parades.
After the meal we'll play games, laughing and cutting up.
I'd love to hear about how you celebrate Thanksgiving.
Anybody have a good homemade baked beans recipe to share on the recipe site? Hubby is hungry for them... a traditional-style recipe, preferably, with a tomato-y sauce... Thanks in advance!
Hey Donna - how did your party go, and which dish did you take?
Nancy
States Ranked by Residents’ Health
Every year, the United Health Foundation and the American Public Health Association conducts a study to see how the states rank in terms of the health of its people.
It examines state and federal data on "personal behaviors," such as smoking, nutrition, and exercise; community health indicators such as violence or workplace injury; and public policy issues, such as the availability of good prenatal care, public health services, and the numbers of uninsured people.
Here is how our states fall:
The state-by-state rankings, beginning at number one, are: Minnesota, New Hampshire, Vermont, Hawaii, Utah, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Maine, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Rhode Island, Washington, Kansas, New Jersey, Idaho, South Dakota, Virginia, Oregon, California, Arizona, Alaska, Pennsylvania, Montana, Ohio, Wyoming, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Delaware, Indiana, Maryland, Texas, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Kentucky, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, West Virginia, Georgia, Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana.
What a wonderful afternoon. It was so quiet in the house. I actually had time to myself. I haven't had time alone in months. Well I wasn't all alone. I had Nikolas with me, but he sleeps most of the time so it was almost like I had the house to myself. Ryan had a birthday party to go to and David took Brandon and Taylor to the park to hang out till after the party. I took a nap. I haven't done that since before Nikolas was born. It was really nice of David to do that for me and I am so grateful. Sometimes we get so busy with our everyday lives that we forget to tell each other how much we appreciate one another. I try to make time to tell him how happy he makes me and how much I appreciate what he does for me and the kids. He likes to show me how much he appreciates me by taking the kids out of my hair for a day. That works for me!

Senator Kerry just conceded.
We have been praying for weeks that this election would go according to God's will, even if it's not what we want. I just hope that this IS God's will and not the will of a mislead barely-majority. I know God will take care of us, even if the President doesn't.
I do wonder though what this says to the world about us as a nation who is choosing to keep this man in office for 4 more years
May God bless us and our nation, and especially protect our military.
It is so nice to live in a town where they have lots to do. On Monday the Town of Sevierville had a winter fest to kick off the holiday season. They had free food, and drinks. They gave away free Teeshirts and pencils and they had moon bounces for the kids. The kids could have gone up in a fire truck ladder. They had live entertainment and fireworks. Tomorrow we are going to the winter fest kick off in Pigeon Forge. I am not sure if they are going to have the same as Sevierville, but I hope it is just as fun. I have never been to anything like this in my life. See we are in the tourist part of east Tennessee. Traffic here on the weekends is horrible. They have some great activities though. I am glad that we are here.

"You must remember this, a kiss is still a
kiss". Your romance is Casablanca. A
classic story of love in trying times, chock
full of both cynicism and hope. You obviously
believe in true love, but you're also
constantly aware of practicality and societal
expectations. That's not always fun, but at
least it's realistic. Try not to let the Nazis
get you down too much.

I'm sure it's no big surprise to you that your
romance is The Princess Bride. A heartwarming
tale of "Twue Wuve" that has giants,
Spainards and swashbuckling. You really do
think that love can overcome anything. You may
be a touch naive but your heart is certainly in
the right place. You've probably got one of
those relationships where proper nouns have
been replaced with "Snookums" and
"Pookie Pie". Eww. Beware a cuteness
overload.
