Home Alone (almost)

Posted at July 16, 2005 12:56 PM in Blending Families , Family Stuff .

Cassie and Billy left Thursday afternoon for RPI (Renseler Polytech Institute) in New York for an orientation. Billy will be attending this college in August. This left me and the girls to fend for ourselves for a few days, and hopefully to get some bonding time. I think Kristin and I have a good bond but I want to have a good relationship with Heidi too.
Unfortunately I had to work so that cuts down on my bonding time. We ordered Italian from Soprano's Restaurant and had a nice dinner together with pleasant conversation. Then Heidi did the dishes, without so much as a whisper of complaint (of which I'm very grateful) and the girls watched TV in the family room and I went into the living room to read.

Friday was much the same except we did Chinese and because the girls were so good (no fights, the house was still standing, and clean!) I took them to Rita's for a treat. We had a good time together this weekend.

Cassie and Billy will be home today and I wonder how the girls will get along when Billy is added back to the equation.

Heidi has been so sweet this weekend, I talked to Cassie over the phone about it. Cassie thinks it has to do with what Heidi thinks she can get away with when we are together. Sort of a divide and conquer mentality. I think Heidi knows how far I can be pushed (not far at all) how far Cassie can be pushed (quite far) and then tries to get Cas and I divided by playing on the softer side of Cassie.

I wonder if it is more that when Billy isn't around she is not under his assumed shadow of superiority. This weekend she was the oldest and not the middle child. Hmmmmmmm... When Billy goes off to college...

Well enough playing Freud. I am going to be so glad when the two travelers roll back in the driveway this evening. I miss them both.
