What is UP With These Cats!

I am a newly converted cat person (six years ago) so I admit to a little bit of ignorance on cat behavior. Our two new adopted cats, Sox (six years old and a Tuxie) and Cubby (nine years old and an Orange Tabby) were engaged in some pretty queer behavior. I use the term queer (please don't flame me, I am not homophobic. I don't care what beat you dance to.) due to the fact that they are both neutered males. My wife called me from our office to witness this obvious (to us) strange behavior. Cassie said she had witnessed these two at this before only then Sox (on top) was also biting Cubby's ears. I suggested to Cassie that maybe it was some kind of dominant-submissive behavior, the cats came from the same home. Or just maybe they think they're a couple.
After they were done they separated and it looked like Sox needed a cigarette and Cubby needed a nice hot bath. Funny thing is they both seemed like they were smiling. Strange.
