What's up with Amber?

Before I met Cassie I was totally ambivalent towards cats. My mom had a cat that deliberately scratched my daughter from my first marriage, across the face when she was just an infant. I saw the incident and can say that she did not provoke the cat in any way. Well from that point on I was not a cat lover.

I met Cassie and fell in love! At the time she had two cats. I liked the kitties right from the start. Mouse and I got along almost right away, but Amber was a little shy. Cassie told me to give her a small piece of ham and she will warm up to you. So I did and sure enough Amber was my instant friend.

So because of Cassie I became a converted cat lover. Eventually I got my own cat (Kozmo) from the shelter. I didn't want a kitten, though cute, they are a bit more work than I wanted to deal with. Besides there are so many cats in shelters I figured I could "rescue" one of them.

We then rescued another cat (Indigo) so now we have four kitties Cassie and I love them all. Them problem began when the litter box had to be changed often. Cassie and I are disabled and it has become very difficult to change the litter almost every day. After a trip to Pet Smart I saw an automatic litter box. I told Cassie about it but we didn't have the money then. The litter problem became worse (it was difficult to get the kids to help) so we bit the money bullet and bought the automatic litter box. Cassie was horrified that I spent two hundred and fifty dollars at Pet Smart.

At first the cats were of the thing. Then Kozmo warmed up to it and after a few more did days Mouse too. Indigo used her box upstairs (that is her domain she doesn't come downstairs) Amber on the other hand rebelled and started pooping and peeing on the family room carpet and couch. We tried everything to get her accustomed to the box, but no dice. So we put the old litterbox next to the new one for a while and the bad behavior stopped. The boys still liked the new box thank goodness and Amber was happy with the status quo.

We ran out of litter for Amber this week and figured we'd try her on the new box again. She went nuts on the couch peeing and pooping like crazy again only this time even worse than before. I had to send Billy out to get the litter and Kristin had to shampoo the couches. Once more Amber is a happy cat and we all are miserable.

What's up with that?

Signed,

Pooped!
