Layoffs Suck
I work for a pretty good company, it's small but the folks there are great. The problem is; It's small. I've been off work now for two weeks. I'll call again tonight to see if there will be work for me for tomorrow, but it doesn't look good.
The previous two weeks before my "temporary layoff" I wasn't drafting, but helping the estimator "stripping bid drawings to help him get estimates out. We have bid on a lot of work but nothing seems to be breaking. And that just sucks! So now what. Call the hall and hope they have some sketching work, or just sit at home waiting for my shop to call me. If I call my union hall I will have to go on the list, and my shop may not be able to get me back and I really like working there. Not only that but there are a lot of people on "the available for work list" and it may be quite a while before I get a call for work. On the other hand if I go on the list something better may turn up. Arghhhhhhhhhh.
