Tastes just like chicken!
Remember the movie with Charlton Heston and Edward G. Robinson, "Soylent Green" The world's food supply was exhausted and the "Government" supplied the people with" Soylent products. There were 2 "cakes" that I remember. soylent red was a cake made from vegetables and soylent green was a protein cake. And we all know where that protein came from ("Soylent green is.... people!")
There was that movie with Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock about the future (Demolition Man) Where they eat bright colored paste and pills at a Taco Bell, (What exactly was that stuff?) and then later they go underground to catch Wesley Snipes and Sly Stone eats a burger made with "Ratus!" (rat burgers) YUCK!
With the price of food skyrocketing and the population growing astronomically it is not inconceivable to me that this may become a reality someday. Where will we get the basic ingredients to manufacture the protein if our livestock become infected with some of the various flavors of disease that are floating around these days. There is salmonella, madcow, and a bunch of exotic names I couldn't even begin to pronounce let alone spell.
My mom has a saying, she says; "Thoughts are things!" "Be careful what you think!" I have read many stories over the years that have come true. Some are great and exciting, and some are scary and horrifying.
Engineered protein scares the dickens out of me. Reminds me of the old saying, "You are what you eat!" Heh heh heh.

'Frankenchicken' May Soon Become a Reality, Scientists Say
Remember the urban legend claiming that fast food giant KFC was forced to change its name from Kentucky Fried Chicken because the products on its menu are supposedly made from a "genetically manipulated organism" so far removed from the real thing that it can't legally be called chicken? Well, it appears rumormongers may have something to cluck about for real in the not-too-distant future as researchers in the field of tissue engineering perfect in vitro technologies "that could grow chicken nuggets without the chicken, on a large scale," according to a just-released scientific paper.
"Cultured meat" would be healthier than ordinary meat, scientists say, and cut down on environmental pollution associated with raising livestock. The technique involves replicating individual muscle cells on a massive scale and growing them on flat sheets or in strands which can be harvested and processed into products resembling actual beef or chicken. "With a single cell, you could theoretically produce the world's annual meat supply," doctoral student Jason Metheny said in a University of Maryland press release. "In the long term, this is a very feasible idea."
Maybe so. But can we call it chicken?
