War of the Worlds
We went to see the Steven Spielberg version of War of the Worlds yesterday. Wow! I have never been disappointed with a Spielberg movie yet, and this was no exception. The movie loosely follows the story as written by HG Wells with a modern setting. The focus is on one family and their fight to stay alive through all the destruction.
Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning were excellent as usual in this film. The special effects were amazing, the story wasn't as good as it could have been. Some of it didn't quite make sense to me.
Aliens visit earth before thousands of years before there are humans, leave gigantic war machines with an extremely advanced technology, then arrive in 2005 via lightning bolts to destroy humans and begin to teraform our planet using our blood and disintegrated flesh as fertilizer. Why didn't they do that when they first arrived? Cassie and I also felt that there should have been more "payback" by us puny humans than just killing off the aliens with our bacteria. The implied message I got, was that we are protected by a "higher Power" in using the lower life forms.
Warning! This movie depicts extreme violence, horrible death on an enormous scale. This was not the way Spielberg usually portrays aliens. Think twice before you bring young children. I was clutching Cassie's hand and the arm of my seat throughout most of the movie.
I thought it was a great movie and enjoyed every minute.
