Scampered like a squirel!

Yesterday morning I called a roofer to get an estimate on the cost to fix our roof. I had to leave a message on his machine. I gave my name, number and a brief description. Then I said that I would be out until after 12:30 PM. I figured he'd call me back to make an appointment. Not a chance! He called about 15 minutes before I had to leave for a physical therapy session. He said "he was in the neighborhood and could he stop by in about 5 minutes" "Sure" I said, come over. Did I forget to mention that it was pouring rain and the wind was blowing fast and furious?

John Sorrentino, of Sorrentino Roofing got here in 5 minutes like he said, came to the door and asked if he could see the roof where the problem was. I said, "But it's raining!" He said "That's no problem, I do it all the time!" Hesitantly I gave him permission to do it. He then runs out to his truck, grabs an extension ladder, extends it on the run, throws it up against the house, and scampers, I mean, scampers like a squirrel right up the ladder.

I stood there with my jaw hanging down to my chest amazed by the man's speed and reckless abandon. It would have taken me at least ten minutes to climb that ladder. That's if I could even steel myself to get above the first three rungs. The guy went over to the side of the roof where the leak was checked out for about ten minutes and came up with what I thought was a pretty good price. All this while standing on the roof in a downpour with sixty mile an hour winds!

The job will take about six hours to finish, they will rip off the whole back side of the lower roof, replace any damaged wood they find, lay rubber down and around the skylights and finish with a high grade, no slots, solid shingle. Then he will replace the vent pipe flashing on the high roof. Oh by the way, when Freakin' Joe did our bathroom he poked the vent pipe out through the roof and never sealed the pipe with flashing. you can see daylight through the roof in the attic where the pipe goes through.

Hopefully it won't rain again until after they are done.
