Armored Truck Spills Its Load On NJ TurnpikePolice Scramble To Prevent Passers-By From Taking The Loot

CARTERET, N.J. (CBS) An armored truck crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike on Monday night, spilling bills and coins onto the road and sending police scrambling to prevent passers-by from scooping up any loot.
"If I live to 100, I'll never see this again," said Turnpike spokesman Joe Orlando.
The cause of the crash in the northbound lanes was not immediately known. The truck flipped over and crashed through a road barrier separating the truck lanes from the car lanes, Orlando said.
State police prevented motorists from stopping and padding their pockets during the disarray, he said. The northbound car lanes were closed while Turnpike maintenance workers used shovels to remove coins from the road.
"We have money all over the road and the state police are trying to maintain the integrity of the scene," Orlando said.
The driver of the truck suffered arm injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, Orlando said.
CBS 2 reports that the truck was carrying $2 million in bills and coins.
